NOW-NYC Protests Ralph Lauren's Unrealistic Beauty Standards Sunday, December 20th from 1 pm - 2pm @ 72nd & Madison Avenue at Ralph Lauren Have you seen the latest string of ads Ralph Lauren is churning out? Ralph Lauren's latest ads depict photo-shopped models that even Barbie couldn't compete with. Apparently, one of the biggest labels in fashion thinks that women's heads should be wider than their waists. Join us to demonstrate that women and girls are proud to take up space--and we will take up space this Sunday in front of Ralph Lauren's flagship store with your help!
• Demand that Ralph Lauren stop issuing ads that depict women as sick and waif-like. • Call for new industry-wide standards: Real women demand real images! • Force new regulations that photo-shopped and airbrushed images contain disclaimers.
Contact the Ralph Lauren Headquarters in NYC to demand that the company put an end to its grossly misinformed portrayal of women. Do not wait idly by as women's bodies are "shooped" and edited beyond reality. 650 Madison Avenue New York, NY 10022 Phone: 212-318-7000 Fax: 212-318-7690

Saturday, September 19th, 7pm NOW-NYC President Sonia Ossorio will lead a discussion on human trafficking after this Saturday's 7 pm showing of Fatal Promises, a controversial new documentary that takes an in-depth and refreshingly honest look into the scourge of human trafficking. Through personal stories of victims of trafficking and interviews with politicians, non-governmental organizations and prominent spokespeople like Emma Thompson and Gloria Steinem, Fatal Promises cleverly juxtaposes the brutal realities of human trafficking suffered by victims and battled by activists, with the hollow rhetoric of politicians and pundits who claim to be making significant strides in combating this horrific crime against humanity.

Though women have made many cracks in it, the glass ceiling is still in place and women face a host of obstacles in climbing the corporate ladder- including care-giving and pregnancy discrimination, harassment, and pay inequity. Corporations have the opportunity to set a new agenda and impact millions of workers by instituting policies that forcefully combat discrimination and help advance women in the workplace.
Held at the NOW-NYC office: 150 W. 28th St., Suite 304 @ 7th Avenue, NYC. Please RSVP today at 212.627.9895 or contact@nownyc.org.

Monday, November 12th, 4:45 pm - 6:00 pm Birth control costs have risen dramatically (up to 10 times!) since the Deficit Reduction Act took effect this year, leaving students and low-income women out in the cold. As a result, affordable birth control has become out of reach for many college women. For example, the cost of a pack of birth control on some campuses has risen from $5 to nearly $50 a month!
