At the recent National Right to Life convention in Kansas City, pro-choice author and reporter Eleanor Bader was taking notes and keeping quiet. On Thursday, July 19th, she took a packed crowd inside the meetings and strategy sessions of the movement that has mercilessly chipped away at our reproductive autonomy.

Did you know that...
- Three candidates for president attended the National Right to Life convention?
- One of the next anti-choice strategies will paint men as victims of abortion?
- Legislation is in the works to force all women seeking an abortion to have a sonogram?

Eleanor Bader is the co-author of Targets of Hatred: Anti-Abortion Terrorism. She reports for The Brooklyn Rail, Z, Library Journal, Lilith, Women's enews, The Public Eye and the NY Law Journal.

Eleanor Bader's coverage of the National Right to Life Convention was made possible by
Merle Hoffman's Diana Foundation.

NOW-NYC members rallied at Union Square

on the day of the Supreme Court decision where president, Sonia Ossorio, spoke out to condemn the Supreme Court's decision alongside other reproductive rights leaders and elected officials.

Verizon Reverses Its Decision to Block Pro-Choice Text Messages

Thanks for Telling Verizon to Let Users Choose!
The new story here.  Send a quick thank you message to Verizon and let them know you are glad that they are responsive to their customers.

The old story:  Verizon Wireless has denied NARAL Pro-Choice America's request to use their wireless network to send text-messages to NARAL subscribers, the only one of the four major U.S. wireless companies to reject NARAL's text messaging program.  Describing text messages about abortion rights "unsavory," Verizon's decision takes away its customers' right to choose the communications they receive. NARAL's request was not to send out SPAM messages, but to disperse information to Verizon customers who had requested the service. Imagine if your emails were monitored and deleted for containing political messages (as is the case in China)? Don't allow Verizon to limit democracy by controlling your personal communication.  More...

I am outraged by Verizon Wireless' decision to censor text messages dealing with abortion on your mobile network. Verizon customers should have the right to decide for themselves what messages they receive and from whom they receive those messages. I do not want Verizon deciding for me what content is considered "controversial or unsavory".

I strongly urge you to reconsider this policy and allow activist organizations the right to pay to use your mobile network for short code messaging.
