NOW-NYC's Eye on the Streets
NYC's Pita Joe Uses Topless Child to Sell FalafelTell Restaurant to Sell Food, Not Children Pita Joe's postcard advertisements pitche $4.95 for a Falafel Sandwich, complimented with a picture of a young, shirtless girl, who has been so clearly pornified for the sake of an attention-grabbing advertisement...for falafel. We're wondering, what is this restaurant trying to sell exactly? What is Pita Joe trying to say? Perhaps, "Our food is enjoyed by sexually eploited youth, so you should like this too"? Or even, "Come one, come all, even child predators are welcome in our restaurant"? If anything, after seeing this postcard advertisement, many food-goers would make the conscious decision to not eat at Pita Joe. The photograph was credited to be taken by Erez Cohen, who is the co-founder of the local Pita Joe (2 W 14th St). Industries supporting and portraying the sexualized imagery of children are profitting off of just that, exploited children. Sell yourself with your $5 falafel sandwich, Pita Joe, not with naked children. (Postcards seen on the streets around Manhattan)

............................................................................................................ BODY SHOP Anti-Slavery AdThe Body Shop has joined forces with ECPAT (End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes), and the Cambodian anti-slavery activist Somaly Mam to take a public stand against modern-day slavery. Slavery may have been abolished on paper in 1865, but human trafficking persists, especially in NYC, home to JFK International airport - one of the central trafficking hubs in the world. At least 1.2 million people under age 18 are abused, beaten, raped and repeatedly sold in the global sex trade each year. Human trafficking often flies under the radar, hitting girls and young women the hardest. This fresh slew of advertisements is eye-catching and informative and make it impossible to be out-of-the-know. Bravo, Body Shop!
