Help Pass the New York State Fair Pay Act

A vote is expected in the Assembly on Monday, April 27th! The Fair Pay Act (A03911; S00955) will put real reforms into place to close the wage gap for women here in New York State. NOW-NYC and fair pay advocates have long supported this legislation, which has passed in the Assembly every year since 2002, but has never made it to a vote in the Senate. The bill would help put a stop to undervaluing sectors dominated by women: it would ensure equal pay for equal and comparable work and protect workers from retaliation when seeking salary information. The bill has been introduced in the Assembly by Assembly Member Susan John and in the Senate by Senator Craig Johnson.

Currently, the bill is at a critical juncture in the Finance Commitee headed by Brooklyn's Carl Kruger.  Take action NOW to support the Fair Pay Act!  Here's what you can do:

1) Let Senator Kruger know that you want the bill on the agenda and put up for a vote.  Send an email to kruger@senate.state.ny.us or call 718-743-8610 and ask him to support S955.

2) Contact Senate Majority Leader Malcolm Smith and ask him to make S955 a priority of the Democratic Conference Committee.  Email masmith@senate.state.ny.us or call 212-298-5585.

3) Reach out to your own State Senator, and ask them to vote yes on the Fair Pay Act.
