Pressuring Corporate Giants for Equality:
NOW-NYC Hosts Martha Burk

Thursday, September 17, 6:30 pm
Martha Burk, Director of the Corporate Responsibility Project at the National Council of Women's Organizations, author of Cult of Power-Sex Discrimination in Corporate America, and Money Editor for Ms. Magazine talks about taking on the giants.

As the largest employers in the U.S., corporations need to be held accountable for treating their employees fairly. Though women have made many cracks in it, the glass ceiling is still in place and women face a host of obstacles in climbing the corporate ladder- including care-giving and pregnancy discrimination, harassment, and pay inequity. Corporations have the opportunity to set a new agenda and impact millions of workers by instituting policies that forcefully combat discrimination and help advance women in the workplace.

Held at the NOW-NYC office: 150 W. 28th St., Suite 304 @ 7th Avenue, NYC.
Please RSVP today at 212.627.9895 or contact@nownyc.org

7:00 pm - Women, Power & Pay Program Starts

Forget about 9 to 5. If women worked the equivalent of what their work is valued, they’d be walking out at 3:15! What will it take for women to gain the same earning power as men? Women-dominated fields pay far less—and as we saw with Lilly Ledbetter—pay discrimination persists. With the economy in bad shape, it’s even more critical to slam the door shut on the “wage gap” once and for all. Learn about New York City’s anti-discrimination laws, the changing landscape of the workplace, and what we’re doing to secure fair pay and better workplace policies for women and families.

Join NOW-NYC President Sonia Ossorio, New York Women’s Agenda Vice President Beverly Neufeld, A Better Balance's Equal Justice Works Fellow and Project Attorney Phoebe Taubman, and NYC Human Rights Deputy Commissioner Cliff Mulqueen in confronting the issue head-on, and learn what you can do to expand women’s power and pay.
