2011 Women of Power and Influence Awards Gala Auctioneer

Sandhya Jain Patel is a Specialist of Indian and Southeast Asian Art at Christie's. Ms. Jain Patel is responsible for appraising, researching, and cataloguing art from the Gandharan period (2nd century, B.C.) up to the early 20th century, thereby raising the understanding and awareness of an ever-growing collection community of the richness and diversity of Indian and Southeast Asian art.

Prior to joining Christie's, Ms. Jain Patel spent one year on a Fulbright Scholarship in India investigating the materials and techniques for conserving Indian miniature paintings. Returning to New York, she continues to conserve works on paper and painted textiles, including thangkas and other South Asian objects from various private and institutional collections. She has co-authored articles on the materials, techniques, and conservation of thangkas and miniature paintings.

Ms. Jain Patel holds dual Bachelor’s Degrees in Biology and Art History from Rutgers University, a Master’s in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics from the University of Medicine and Dentistry, New Jersey, and a Master’s in Art History and in Fine Arts Conservation from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University.  She has applied her science and artistic skills as both a conservation scientist and as an art conservator to several projects, ranging from the preservation of archeological sites such as Samothrace, Greece, to the research and treatment of a 15th century Nepalese thangka at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.  National Organization for Women, NYC and the Service Fund are proud to be sponored by the following organizations for this year's Women of Power and Influence Awards Auction.

All proceeds from this auction support NOW-NYC's and the Service Fund's efforts to advocate for the women and girls of New York City through public education, grassroots organizing, lobbying, and action. Auction sponsors are added regularly.
