2011 Women of Power & Influence Awards Gala Emcee Marysol Castro is currently the Weather Anchor for CBS' "The Early Show." Most recently, Castro served as the Weather Anchor and Feature Correspondent of ABC News weekend edition of Good Morning America (2004-2010). In addition to covering the national weather outlook from the studio, Castro has reported major weather stories from the field. In her first year she covered the historic string of hurricanes that plagued the southeast including Hurricane Katrina. She returned to New Orleans and Florida post-Katrina to follow up on a group of families devastated by the destruction.
Castro has also covered a wide variety of non weather related stories. In 2009, she followed a group of undocumented students from UC Berkeley as they struggled with the prospect of deportation. Castro also followed the life of a California family whose daughter is allergic to virtually everything. In February 2010, Castro reported on the orphan crisis following the Haitian earthquake. Castro took on the role of trapeze artist in a production of Cirque de Soleil in 2007, drove the pace car for the Indy 500 with both Patrick Dempsey and former Secretary of State Colin Powell, swam with sharks at an aquarium in New Jersey, cliff dove in Oahu, Hawaii, tossed the football with New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and covered the Academy Awards from the red carpet in 2004 and 2005. She scoured the Lower 48 in search of the best breakfast, ice cream, and dessert and attempted playing one-on-one with WNBA star Lisa Leslie.
Before joining ABC News, Castro served as a general assignment reporter for WPIX-TV in New York. Prior to that, she worked as an anchor and correspondent for News 12 The Bronx (2000-2002). In her former life, Castro taught high school English in Brooklyn, New York.
She received her undergraduate degree from Wesleyan University and got her Master's at The Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. She resides in Connecticut with her two young sons.
